The competition included the urban requalification of Massa. In locating a wider space, the design has identified the two areas of Piazza del Mercato and Piazza S. Sebastiano, that act as a continuum that starts at Porta Martana and ends at S. Sebastiano's church, whereas Piazza della Stazione - which is connected to the other two areas by the important Viale della Stazione - is comparable to the railway infrastructure's platforms. The design hypothesis is to act like in an hypothetical open-air archaeological excavation, from where it is possible to discover old and new signs and fragments to reassemble.
