ITS BARSANTI - LA SCUOLA NEL PARCO

Italy Massa 2023

The planned intervention on the existing building system consists in the complete demolition of all the existing structures, classrooms and laboratories, up to freeing up the entire lot for a total area of 10,600 m2. Five buildings will be built as replacements. Four will be educational buildings, each consisting of three classrooms on the first level + three laboratories on the ground floor. The fifth is the administrative and management space, larger and different from the others: it includes offices, some laboratories, the library and the 200-seat auditorium. The buildings are aligned along a linear spine path on two levels, along which the accesses and paths of all the buildings are distributed. This scheme ensures continuity between spaces and the relative independence of each block. The system of buildings occupies much less surface area than the lot, which for almost two thirds will be occupied by an urban park of about 7000 square meters, with over 150 trees and ground cover plants, light in the foliage and in the trunk, such as to create a natural environment bright and simple. Rainwater will be collected in open tanks and underground cisterns to be able to use it for the park's water reserve. The parking spaces will be distributed around the perimeter of the lot, with an appropriate redesign of the road section in via delle Carre, avoiding large and anonymous parking areas. The overall effect of the project will be that of "a school in the park" where the system of buildings is integrated with the trees, paths and design of the greenery. With this aim, the lot, the views and its perimeter are designed. The construction technologies envisaged are particularly attentive to environmental sustainability, with the use of eco-efficient materials, PV energy production on the roofs, without dispersion of resources into the environment, and the recovery of meteoric water resources. The garden project to replace a lot that is now saturated well describes the purposes of creating an integrated intervention between urban needs, livability of places and the creation of an important educational institution.
